On January 08, 2025, Union Aid, in partnership with Malteser International, funded by the German Foreign Office, organized a distribution ceremony to provide winter clothes and shoes for 106 Community Health Workers (CHWs), 6 Outreach Vaccinators, and 12 Community Health Supervisors (CHSs). These essential items were given as a gesture of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these healthcare professionals, who play a crucial role in delivering basic health services to vulnerable populations in the targeted regions in Mazar-e-Sharif.
Mr. Amjad Ahmad Safi, the Executive Director of Union Aid who participated in the ceremony, committed to enhancing healthcare services in underserved areas through its network of 6 Basic Health Centers. These centers are responsible for providing primary healthcare services, including vaccination programs, maternal and child health services, and treatment for common diseases. The health services are especially vital for marginalized communities who face limited access to medical facilities.
Union Aid has been actively engaged in improving healthcare outreach in these areas, with a strong focus on community-based healthcare delivery. The 106 CHWs, stationed across 53 Health Posts (HPs), are an integral part of this initiative. These HPs, established by Union Aid, are equipped with basic medical supplies and equipment to provide effective and timely healthcare services to the local population.
It worth to mention that out of 106 CHWs, 53 are female, highlighting Union Aid's commitment to gender equity in healthcare service delivery.
The 106 CHWs and 6 Outreach Vaccinators are vital to the success of Union Aid’s mission. They work at the grassroots level, directly engaging with communities, offering health education, delivering essential health services, and conducting vaccination campaigns. Their contribution is critical to improving the overall health standards in the targeted regions, especially in rural or hard-to-reach areas.
Furthermore, Union Aid has appointed 12 CHSs to monitor and assess the activities of the CHWs. These supervisors ensure that the CHWs are adhering to protocols, receiving adequate support, and are equipped with the resources necessary to carry out their work efficiently. Union Aid provides ongoing capacity-building programs to improve the skills of the CHWs as well.
