Union Aid conducted three meticulously planned assessments on November 2 and a refresher assessment on November 14 and eventually the last assessment session on December 4, 2023, at the Torkham border, focusing on the escalating influx of returnees and deportees to Afghanistan. The report reflects pivotal findings derived from initiated meetings, insights into return and deportation status, the UN response, and gaps in current humanitarian endeavors.
Situation Update:
As of early November 2023, a significant influx of Afghan returnees from Pakistan persists, with over 1800-2000 families crossing borders, whereas within December 4, 2023, as of our last assessment session, the number of deportations has decreased to 200-250 families per day.
