Summary:

Union Aid, with generous financial support from AFV, has initiated and actively contributed to the response efforts for the emergency situation in Herat, which was triggered by a series of earthquakes affecting the western provinces of Afghanistan. Herat, in particular, has experienced extensive damage, destruction, and casualties.

Response Details:

In response to this dire situation, Union Aid promptly dispatched an assessment team to the affected areas. Their visit aimed to gather crucial information and insights about the impact of the earthquakes on the local communities. This assessment was carried out in close coordination with relevant clusters and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to ensure a well-coordinated and comprehensive response.

Our distribution efforts were executed meticulously and with great care to ensure that the winter packages reached the intended beneficiaries. The process involved:

Beneficiary Identification: Families were identified through comprehensive assessments to determine those most affected by the earthquakes and in need of winter relief.

Equitable Distribution: We ensured a fair and transparent distribution process to guarantee that each family received their Winter Aid Relief Package.

Community Engagement: We actively engaged with the local communities and village leaders to foster trust and cooperation, facilitating a smooth distribution process.

Outcomes:

The distribution of Winter Aid Relief Packages has had a significant positive impact:

Vulnerable families now possess the necessary items to stay warm during the approaching winter season, mitigating the cold and harsh weather conditions.

The relief packages have provided essential comfort and relief to those still recovering from the earthquake's impact.

Our close coordination with community leaders and organizations in the area has strengthened our relationships and local partnerships
