About Union Aid
Union Aid (UA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political humanitarian and development organization established by Dr. Toryalay Nassery (an Afghan scholar) in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was formed in response to the influx of refugees from Afghanistan and was the first/pioneer organization to serve the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Union Aid implemented its activities mainly in refugee camps that later became villages, which was one of the biggest refugee camps in the world at that time. UA initiated its activities in Afghanistan in the 1981 and gradually expanded its services all over Afghanistan. UA started its activities with two doctors and two paramedical staff that gradually expanded to various programs, including:
Health Care & Nutrition: Establishment and management of hospitals and clinics, maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, family planning, as well as full sponsorship and specialized treatment of patients in European countries including Germany, Spain and Italy.
Food Security: Distribution of food items throughout the country.
Education: Literacy initiatives, school management, scholarships for students, and teacher training programs.
Livelihoods & Vocational Skills: Technical training, handicraft production, and employment generation activities to strengthen self-reliance.
WASH & Shelter: Provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and emergency shelters.
Emergency Response: Life-saving interventions including food and non-food distributions, winter relief packages, and rapid health responses during crises.
Agriculture & Environment: Tree plantation and afforestation initiatives to support sustainability and environmental resilience.
Protection: Women empowerment projects, orphanage centers, and demining project.
Cash Assistance: Continuous financial support for needy families and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Job Description:
The Midwife as part of primary healthcare services will be providing essential maternal and reproductive healthcare services in the targeted area including referral services, provision of prenatal care, assisting with deliveries, and providing postnatal care to expectant mothers and newborns.
Responsibilities:
- Have sufficient knowledge of and implement the Basic Health Services Package for Afghanistan.
- Register and record basic information regarding maternity health service clients.
- Complete ANC examinations, general physical examinations, and check vaccination cards for receiving the TT vaccine.
- Provide daily health education sessions.
- Provide information about family planning to women.
- Perform deliveries and other services according to the basic health service package.
- Recommend preventive treatment to women by guidelines and protocols.
- Collaborate with doctors in categorizing and examining patients in the absence of a female doctor.
- Provide delivery awareness and refer them to a doctor if necessary.
- Provide information about antenatal, and postnatal visits, and family planning, and emphasize their importance to women.
- Actively participate in committees for tetanus prevention and HMIS (Health Management Information System) quality improvement.
- Active participation in prevention committees.
- Proper maintenance of materials and equipment in the maternity health room and delivery room.
- Collaboration with other clinic members to provide better services.
- Prepare monthly reports on the intervals between deliveries, registrations (ANC and PNC), and daily use of tally sheets and health administration forms.
- Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of the mother and child health room.
- Show kindness and observe proper etiquette when interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
- Sterilize equipment and tools in the mother and child health room.
- Execute any other tasks assigned by the district clinic supervisor or relevant authority.
Job Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Midwifery.
- Valid midwifery license to practice in Afghanistan.
- At least 3 years of proven experience as a midwife, with a strong focus on maternal and newborn healthcare.
- Knowledge of prenatal and postnatal care guidelines and best practices.
- Excellent communication and compassionate patient care skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Familiarity with Afghan healthcare regulations and practices.
- Knowledge of local languages (Dari and Pashto) is essential.
