Position: Female Social Worker - Community Mobilizer

About Union Aid

Union Aid (UA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political humanitarian and development organization established by Dr. Toryalay Nassery (an Afghan scholar) in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was formed in response to the influx of refugees from Afghanistan and was the first/pioneer organization to serve the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Union Aid implemented its activities mainly in refugee camps that later became villages, which was one of the biggest refugee camps in the world at that time. UA initiated its activities in Afghanistan in the 1981 and gradually expanded its services all over Afghanistan. UA started its activities with two doctors and two paramedical staff that gradually expanded to various programs, including:

Health Care & Nutrition: Establishment and management of hospitals and clinics, maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, family planning, as well as full sponsorship and specialized treatment of patients in European countries including Germany, Spain and Italy.

Food Security: Distribution of food items throughout the country.

Education: Literacy initiatives, school management, scholarships for students, and teacher training programs.

Livelihoods & Vocational Skills: Technical training, handicraft production, and employment generation activities to strengthen self-reliance.

WASH & Shelter: Provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and emergency shelters.

Emergency Response: Life-saving interventions including food and non-food distributions, winter relief packages, and rapid health responses during crises.

Agriculture & Environment: Tree plantation and afforestation initiatives to support sustainability and environmental resilience.

Protection: Women empowerment projects, orphanage centers, and demining project.

Cash Assistance: Continuous financial support for needy families and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Job Description:

One pair of community mobilizers/facilitators will be responsible for beneficiary households depending upon the geographical location of the households and the villages.

  • Collect necessary baseline information about the target community and area.
  • Motivate and encourage community committees, community activists, and influential to advocate and promote the project in their community and ensure their participation.
  • Conduct meetings/sessions in the community regularly.
  • Detailed sharing of the work plan with the beneficiaries and identification of their roles regarding the package plan for the individual households and community level.
  • Mobilize and build the capacity of community committees.
  • Obtain feedback, suggestions, and grievances from the target communities related to the project activities and forward to project management for necessary actions.
  • Assess and identify priority points in the targeted areas in liaison with the community committee members for repair, maintenance, and equipping of small-scale infrastructure through different schemes. 
  • Sensitize communities on their role in the operation and maintenance of various communal schemes. 
  • Keep a close liaison with the beneficiary households, by visiting/meeting them once a week.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary documentation and record of all project outreach activities.
  • Maintain and update all records at the office level.
  • Develop and submit daily activity reports, and monitoring reports in a given format.
  • Make continuous follow-ups on the activities with the beneficiaries and inform the project management accordingly.
  • Participate in capacity building trainings, workshops and seminars.

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, conduct trainings, and mobilize communities towards collective action.
  • Proficiency in local languages (Pashto, Dari) is required; knowledge of English is an advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the target provinces for community engagement and project-related activities.
