Position: Community Based Health Care Assistant

About Union Aid

Union Aid (UA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political humanitarian and development organization established by Dr. Toryalay Nassery (an Afghan scholar) in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was formed in response to the influx of refugees from Afghanistan and was the first/pioneer organization to serve the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Union Aid implemented its activities mainly in refugee camps that later became villages, which was one of the biggest refugee camps in the world at that time. UA initiated its activities in Afghanistan in the 1981 and gradually expanded its services all over Afghanistan. UA started its activities with two doctors and two paramedical staff that gradually expanded to various programs, including:

Health Care & Nutrition: Establishment and management of hospitals and clinics, maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, family planning, as well as full sponsorship and specialized treatment of patients in European countries including Germany, Spain and Italy.

Food Security: Distribution of food items throughout the country.

Education: Literacy initiatives, school management, scholarships for students, and teacher training programs.

Livelihoods & Vocational Skills: Technical training, handicraft production, and employment generation activities to strengthen self-reliance.

WASH & Shelter: Provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and emergency shelters.

Emergency Response: Life-saving interventions including food and non-food distributions, winter relief packages, and rapid health responses during crises.

Agriculture & Environment: Tree plantation and afforestation initiatives to support sustainability and environmental resilience.

Protection: Women empowerment projects, orphanage centers, and demining project.

Cash Assistance: Continuous financial support for needy families and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Job Description:

The Community Base Health Coordinator Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the organization's community-based health activities. They assist in coordinating and implementing health programs in alignment with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) guidelines, project goals, and milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

Action Plan Development:

  • Collaborate with the Basic Health Center (BHC) and Health Officer to develop monthly, quarterly, and yearly action plans for community-based health activities.

Policy and Strategy Implementation:

  • Support and implement the Community Base Health Coordinator (CBHC) policy and strategy, adhering to the guidelines and protocols of the MoPH.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Provide training opportunities and conduct training sessions for Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Health Supervisors (CHSs) to enhance their skills and capacity.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect and analyze Health Management Information System (HMIS) data related to CBHC programs and provide feedback for improving the reporting system.

Supervision and Monitoring:

  • Supervise and regularly monitor the activities of CHWs and CHSs at the BHC level to track project progress and address challenges with effective solutions.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Communicate and coordinate with the Department of Public Health (DoPH) CBHC section to strengthen and support the CBHC program at the BHC level.

Incentive Provision:

  • Ensure the provision of incentives for CHWs in accordance with MoPH and organizational policies.

Policy Implementation:

  • Ensure the implementation of Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) standard policies, strategies, and community-based health care indicators.

Timely Reporting:

  • Provide timely reports on CBHC activities to the Health Officer.

Active Participation:

  • Actively participate in all relevant meetings, including organizational meetings, CBHC-related gatherings, Health Shura meetings, and district and BHC-level meetings.

Ad Hoc Tasks:

  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by the line manager in support of community-based health activities.
