About Union Aid

Union Aid (UA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political humanitarian and development organization established by Dr. Toryalay Nassery (an Afghan scholar) in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was formed in response to the influx of refugees from Afghanistan and was the first/pioneer organization to serve the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Union Aid implemented its activities mainly in refugee camps that later became villages, which was one of the biggest refugee camps in the world at that time. UA initiated its activities in Afghanistan in the 1981 and gradually expanded its services all over Afghanistan. UA started its activities with two doctors and two paramedical staff that gradually expanded to various programs, including:

Health Care & Nutrition: Establishment and management of hospitals and clinics, maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, family planning, as well as full sponsorship and specialized treatment of patients in European countries including Germany, Spain and Italy.

Food Security: Distribution of food items throughout the country.

Education: Literacy initiatives, school management, scholarships for students, and teacher training programs.

Livelihoods & Vocational Skills: Technical training, handicraft production, and employment generation activities to strengthen self-reliance.

WASH & Shelter: Provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and emergency shelters.

Emergency Response: Life-saving interventions including food and non-food distributions, winter relief packages, and rapid health responses during crises.

Agriculture & Environment: Tree plantation and afforestation initiatives to support sustainability and environmental resilience.

Protection: Women empowerment projects, orphanage centers, and demining project.

Cash Assistance: Continuous financial support for needy families and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Job Description:

Summary:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Health Project Manager and in cooperation with the health authorities, health facility supervisors, staff and beneficiaries, the Health Project Coordinator will be responsible to ensure that Union Aid health program(s) achieve their objectives, improve health outcomes for beneficiaries, are cost effective and sustainable, and conform to Union Aid and Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) policies.

The Health Project Coordinator will be based in Kabul, and will travel to provinces that are covered by the project.

Job Description:

  1. Act according to the organization policies and procedures
  2. Support the Health Project Manager in the implementation of BPHS technical part
  3. Responsible for overall management of BPHS technical part (standard service delivery, planning, implementation, supervision, target setting, recording and reporting)
  4. Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality among the members of the department.
  5. Ensure a professional technical atmosphere among the team to develop/identify, implement and supervise the BPHS/MOPH seven components required standard services. 
  6. Follow up and coordinate the implementation of project work plan activities and objectives by different sections.
  7. Develop plans (supervision of plans, quality improvement) with Health Project Manager and technical staff, supervise the implementation of the plan and give timely feedback.
  8. Direct supervision of HFs and follow up of Health supervisor performance in field.
  9. Collect the technical sections activities reports, and achievements and Prepare the project technical reports (monthly, quarterly etc.).
  10. Ensure active project supplies chain (materials, Pharmaceuticals, HMIS formats) to the health facilities through set channels and regulations.
  11. Responsible to support technical team and HFs, with providing capability building opportunities and on the job trainings. (trainings, Seminars, presentations, etc.)
  12. Ensure the implementation of the quality improvement in HFs and its follow up by different sections.
  13. Responsible for implementation and follow up all BPHS seven components, in HFs based on MoPH and project plan
  14. Implement the project action plans, made by HQ and MOPH and its follow up.
  15. Participate in technical meetings and conduct in charge meetings and project feedbacks.
  16. Participate in all coordination meeting with, PPHD, UN agencies, NGOs, Stakeholders and governmental agencies.
  17. Take part in technical staff appraisal and performance evaluation.
  18. Perform any other tasks assigned by line manager.
 

Job Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor / Master of Public Health
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience in Public health management with local NGOs or International NGOs specially in BPHS
  • Interpersonal and managerial and conflict resolution skills.
  • Good communication skills and knowledge of local communities.
  • Knowledge of English, Dari and Pashto Languages.
  • Negotiation skills in multicultural and multilingual environment
