Assessment of Afghan Returnees Situation in Torkham Border
20.04.2025
The Union Aid team conducted an assessment of forced Afghan returnees from Pakistan to understand their current conditions and needs. This assessment aimed to gather data on their challenges and identify ways to support their reintegration into Afghan society.
Key Findings
Living Conditions:
Many returnees are living in temporary shelters with inadequate access to basic amenities such as clean water and sanitation.
Health Services:
Access to healthcare is limited, with many returnees suffering from untreated medical conditions.
Economic Challenges:
High unemployment rates among returnees are leading to financial instability and reliance on humanitarian aid.
Psychosocial Issues:
Many individuals reported feelings of anxiety and trauma related to their forced return and the circumstances they faced in Pakistan.
The assessment highlighted urgent needs among the returnees and the necessity for coordinated efforts to provide adequate support. Further follow-up actions will be planned in collaboration with donor agencies, defacto authorities and related stakeholders.
